UCET Podcast: “Big Picture Learning in a Globalized, Interconnected World”

UCET Podcast with Kiera Beddes

Episode with Dani Macias and Matthew Winters

One of my heroes, Henry Rollins, once said (paraphrasing), “Travel helps kick the ignorance out of your body.” I first heard that at 19, just a few months before I was able to wander Europe for the first time on my own meager dime. That was a transformative experience for me and one that I still reflect on every time that I travel. One thing that I have learned is that travel is weird. It helps you to see the weird little worlds that exist everywhere and interact with people, social customs, and ideas that you may have never interacted with in your geographic backyard. So, I continued to travel and engage and it led to some amazing circumstances for me and I loved being able to engage with vastly different groups around the world. So, earlier this month when I was invited by Kiera Beddes, the UCET Podcast host, to discuss global learning projects with one of my favorite Utah educators, Dani Macias I was automatically excited.

I love talking with educators on how to engage in global learning. Not only with students, but as a teacher. It was something that I had the privilege to experience as a teacher in several countries and all around the United States. It helped to transform me as a person and as an educator, but it also was a group of experiences that I brought back to my classroom and helped students learn more about the world around us.

Check out this great episode and learn from both Dani and Kiera, who are just amazing people and educators. Listen to the episode below.
