Session Information

Creating and building breakout rooms continues to be an innovative process in classrooms. However, finding starting points and developing an appropriate curriculum can be difficult. This session solves that problem by providing appropriate and scalable ways you can engage students with escape rooms.

Kelli Cannon

Kelli Cannon is an upper-grade elementary teacher who loves incorporating technology into her classroom. Kelli is an Apple Teacher, a Nearpod Certified Educator, and a Google Trainer. Kelli has endorsements in Teaching English as a Second Language, Educational Technology, and Instructional Coaching. She is a co-leader of the Google Educator Group in Utah. She is interested in incorporating 3D printing into her elementary curriculum and finding new ways to engage students through the use of technology.

Emma Moss

In Emma Moss’ classroom students can be found immersed in the trenches of a World War I battlefield using virtual reality, elbow-deep inside a computer dissection, coding robots through obstacle courses, and engaged in civic discussions. Emma describes teaching as finding the place she fits in the world. She is currently entering her seventh year of teaching. Emma has a Bachelor’s in Social Science Teaching and a Master’s of Education in Learning and Technology; with additional endorsements and certifications in Business & Marketing, EdTech, Google, AVID, and ISTE. Emma was the 2021 UT Teacher of the Year Runner-Up, UT CTE New Teacher of the Year, UT Hope Street Group Fellow, and an ACTE National Leadership Fellow. Emma serves as a student government advisor, state board instructor, and teacher representative on multiple committees at both a local and state level. She believes in empowering teachers and bridging the digital divide by providing students with opportunities to grow.

Matthew Winters

Matthew Winters is a Utah Education Network trainer specializing in Google Workspaces for Edu. He is also GEGUtah co-leader and Utah Coalition for Educational Technology (UCET) President for 2022-2023, our Utah ISTE affiliate. He is also one of ISTE’s 20 to Watch award winners for 2023. He is a former English Language Arts teacher at the secondary and college level. He has presented at ISTE (2019, 2021), UCET (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), ACIS (2011, 2012, 2014), and many local and national conferences.
